Local and well liked Philadelphia restaurant is thrown to the rats, literally. After this ‘breakfast and lunch’ café closed on Sunday the staff of Green Eggs Café finished cleaning up and treated themselves to lunch by ordering pizza. The staff headed home and during the time of closing Sunday afternoon and Monday morning the restaurant’s main sewer pipe burst! Around 9PM the staff and co-owner, Steve Slaughter, received a forward photo from a regular Philadelphia customer explaining he was “horrified”! The picture sent were rats eating pizza leftovers. The restaurant is closed until the broke sewer pipe is fixed and the place is disinfected. Slaughter explains the building has a defect and the broken sewer pipe is what is bringing in the rats. Questionable customers don’t know whether to believe the broken sewer pipe or pizza brought on this rat race. Slaughter explains that the repair is to start Tuesday; however the plan is to dig and replace the entire sewer line that lies under the basement. The sidewalk and street will be torn up to replace the line, keeping Green Eggs Café closed even longer. Although, the two other chains within the city haven’t seen any decrease in business, a café down is still bad for business with a ratty reputation. Much time, labor and money will be put into this project to replace the sewer line.
